Mayor’s Competition
It may be the middle of summer but the Mayor of Wootton Bassett is busy planning ahead! “I will soon need to order my Christmas cards, so I am asking the young people of Wootton Bassett to design something special for me” says Mayor Mary Champion.
“I would be so proud to send Christmas cards designed by young people of Wootton Bassett to the county’s Mayors this year, as well as to other dignitaries,” continues the Mayor, “and some of these unique special edition cards will also be presented to the winners of the competition along with their prize so they can send them to friends and family, too.”
The competition has two categories, under 11s and over 11s and entries can be a painting, drawing or collage of any design, traditional or more contemporary. “As long as it expresses the spirit of Christmas those who enter are free to design it any way they like,” the Mayor says, “and I am really looking forward to seeing them!”
Councillor Champion was elected as Mayor of the town in May and since then has been very busy. In addition to attending local events, which Councillor Champion sees as an excellent way to meet members of the community, the Mayor has set up a monthly surgery where residents can turn up and discuss any issues they may need assistance with.
A number of community based fundraising events in aid of Wootton Bassett Age Concern are also in the pipeline. “I have lived in Wootton Bassett for 40 years and have served as a Councillor and run businesses in the town,” says the Mayor, “and now I am pleased to have the opportunity to serve residents as Mayor.”
The closing date for the Mayor’s Christmas Card Competition is Friday 24th September, and entries should be sent to Wootton Bassett Town Council at 117 High Street along with your name, address and telephone number.
